Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their odds based on internal models and risk assessment, while this market’s odds are driven by traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. Therefore, you may observe differences between the implied probabilities on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks. These discrepancies can arise from differing information, biases, or simply the collective judgment of market participants. It’s valuable to compare both to form a well-rounded view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, ultimately reflecting the collective forecast of all participants. The current price indicates the market’s assessment of the likelihood of Rares Teodor Pieleanu or Stefan Popovic winning the Zlatibor tennis match. As more trades occur, the price will converge towards what the market believes is the true probability.
