Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to differences, especially as new information emerges and traders update their beliefs. If sportsbook odds strongly disagree with the probabilities reflected in this market, it may indicate an opportunity for informed traders to capitalize on discrepancies, though this is not guaranteed. It's important to compare both sources when forming your own opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. The current implied probability of a particular player winning is determined by the share price relative to $1, with higher prices indicating a greater perceived chance of success.
