Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market aggregates the beliefs of a diverse group of traders. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook is mispricing an outcome, they can take the opposite side in this market, driving the odds towards their assessment. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of confidence in a particular result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a specific outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds remain responsive to new information and changing perceptions about the Shaoyun Liu vs Yue Xia match.
