Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. If a significant discrepancy exists between this market and sportsbook odds, it could indicate differing levels of confidence in a particular outcome, or that the market has identified information not yet reflected in sportsbook lines. Analyzing these differences can be a valuable exercise for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome will occur, the higher the price of shares representing that outcome will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing allows the market to aggregate information and express a collective forecast for the Pankin vs Tang match.
