Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective belief of informed traders. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, opportunities for arbitrage may arise. However, it's important to remember that prediction markets are forward-looking, incorporating new information quickly, whereas sportsbook odds may be slower to adjust. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts accordingly, providing a dynamic assessment of the match's potential result. The current top outcome, as indicated by share price, is the most favored by traders on Polymarket.
