Prediction market odds often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the wisdom of the crowd effect. Sportsbooks set lines based on their internal models and risk assessment, while this market reflects the collective predictions of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced the outcome, the prediction market odds will adjust accordingly, potentially offering a more accurate assessment of the true probability. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before a large amount of trading occurs.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the latest collective assessment. The current implied probability of a particular outcome is visible on the dashboard, allowing you to gauge market sentiment.
