Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a broader range of information and participant perspectives than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set lines based on models and internal analysis, while this market incorporates the wisdom of the crowd. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, access to information, or simply variations in modeling approaches. If significant differences emerge between this market and sportsbook odds, it could signal opportunities for arbitrage or indicate that one venue has a more accurate assessment of the likely outcome. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities, not guarantees.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts accordingly. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants. The current price indicates what traders are willing to pay for a share, and therefore, their assessment of the probability of the outcome.
