Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish initial lines based on their own analysis, aiming to balance action on both sides. This market, however, allows anyone to express their belief, potentially leading to odds that incorporate a broader range of information and perspectives. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of expertise, biases, or access to information among market participants and sportsbook analysts. Observing these differences can be insightful for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Lee vs Oki match. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing mechanism ensures that the market odds constantly adapt to new information and sentiment.
