Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while this market allows traders to directly assess the probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, the influence of expert opinions, and the wisdom of the crowd effect. If sportsbooks heavily favor one player, this market might show a more nuanced view if traders believe the other player has a higher chance of winning. Comparing these odds can provide a more comprehensive understanding of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of an event occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the market. The current price indicates the market's assessment of the likelihood of a particular outcome in the Bieldiugin vs Ricci match, and is driven entirely by supply and demand for shares in this market.
