Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook is mispricing an outcome, we might see divergence. It's common to find that prediction markets are more accurate than sportsbook odds, especially when there's strong public interest and available information about the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the price adjusts to reflect the collective prediction. The market's efficiency relies on active participation and the availability of information, allowing the price to converge towards a true probability assessment of the Parizzia vs Cocola match.
