Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the aggregated beliefs of informed traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information or risk assessments. If there's a significant difference between the implied probability on Polymarket and sportsbook odds, it suggests that prediction market participants hold a view that diverges from the broader betting public, potentially identifying a mispriced opportunity. Examining these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts accordingly, providing a dynamic assessment of the match’s potential result. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, making it a purely crowd-sourced forecast.
