Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing or overvaluing a particular outcome, the odds on Polymarket will adjust accordingly. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of confidence in a given outcome. It’s common to see prediction markets offer more accurate probabilities, especially when a large volume of traders participate.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants. The market's efficiency depends on the level of trading activity and the information available to traders.
