Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of an outcome. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks, especially when there's strong public interest or information asymmetry. Comparing the odds can reveal where the 'wisdom of the crowd' diverges from professional oddsmakers.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all traders on Polymarket regarding the M25 Rabat tennis match.
