Comparing prediction market odds to those offered by sportsbooks reveals how public sentiment differs from professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks typically set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of individual traders. If prediction market odds significantly diverge from sportsbook odds, it may indicate that traders possess information or insights not yet fully incorporated into traditional betting lines. Discrepancies can also arise from differing risk appetites or market inefficiencies. It's important to consider both sources when evaluating the potential outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each possible outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all participants trading on Polymarket. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds continuously adapt to new information and changing perceptions.
