Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective that differs from traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the aggregate beliefs of informed traders. If a significant discrepancy exists between the implied probability on Polymarket and sportsbook odds, it may indicate the market has identified information not yet fully priced in by bookmakers, or vice versa. It’s important to consider both sources when forming your own assessment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts accordingly. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven entirely by supply and demand, and is a direct measure of the collective forecast of those trading on the platform.
