Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on internal models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If sportsbooks heavily favor one player, this market might show a more nuanced view if there’s disagreement among traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply a larger and more diverse pool of participants contributing to this market.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa.
