Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, particularly as an event approaches. Sportsbooks may incorporate biases or marketing considerations, while this market aggregates the views of informed traders. However, discrepancies can occur due to differing liquidity and the specific information factored into each. It’s common to see initial sportsbook lines move closer to the prediction market’s probabilities as more information becomes available and the event nears.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price converges towards a consensus view. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s depth and trading volume influence how quickly and efficiently the price reflects new information or shifts in sentiment regarding the Faucon vs Waldner match.
