Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, they can influence the price on Polymarket to reflect their assessment. This can lead to discrepancies, with prediction markets sometimes offering more accurate probabilities, particularly when information isn't widely available or is undervalued by the broader public.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence of all participants, making it a valuable indicator of potential results.
