Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to participate and express their beliefs. If a significant discrepancy exists between prediction market probabilities and sportsbook odds, it may indicate that the market perceives information differently or has access to unique insights. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, and neither guarantees accuracy.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of the event occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and there are no external factors influencing the pricing mechanism. This creates a dynamic and responsive market that can quickly incorporate new information.
