Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, whereas this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. If a large number of traders believe a particular outcome is more likely, the odds will shift accordingly, potentially diverging from sportsbook offerings. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks in accuracy, as they aggregate the wisdom of the crowd and are incentivized to reflect true probabilities. This can be a useful tool for comparing different viewpoints on the match’s outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of Aadarsh Tripathi winning the Gijon tennis match. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions are accurate. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.
