Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks may set initial lines based on power rankings and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities as new information emerges. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or simply variations in opinion. It’s often insightful to compare the implied probability from both sources to identify potential value or mispricing in either market.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now.
