Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and profit margins, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook is mispricing a player's chances, we may see the prediction market odds diverge. It's important to compare the implied probabilities from both sources to identify potential discrepancies and make informed decisions about where to allocate your capital.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants.
