Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a 'wisdom of the crowd' effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market is driven by traders directly expressing their beliefs about the outcome. If sportsbook odds significantly diverge from those seen here, it could indicate differing opinions on the players' chances, or potentially an opportunity for arbitrage. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, and neither guarantees the actual result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuates based on supply and demand – if more traders believe Juan Ignacio Lombisano will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants.
