Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of people believe a particular outcome is more likely than implied by sportsbook odds, the price in this market will adjust accordingly. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the event. It’s common to see prediction markets offer more accurate probabilities, especially when a large volume of trading occurs.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing different outcomes of the Laborde vs Popko match, and the price of each share reflects the market’s assessment of that outcome’s probability. As more shares are traded, the price converges towards what the crowd believes is the fair value. The price movements are driven by supply and demand, with buyers pushing the price up and sellers pushing it down.
