Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the event's likelihood. If you find a significant difference between the odds on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks, it could indicate a potential edge, although past performance is not indicative of future results.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe in a particular outcome, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will climb. This creates a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event's potential results, driven entirely by the participants in this market.
