Prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the competitors' strengths. It’s common to see prediction markets move more efficiently based on new information, potentially offering a more accurate assessment of the probability of each outcome than traditional odds.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the aggregated sentiment. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and collective intelligence of the participants. The current price reflects what traders are willing to pay for a share representing the outcome.
