Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance betting action, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant discrepancy exists, it could indicate that the market believes the sportsbook has mispriced the probability of a particular outcome. It's important to remember that both represent probabilities, but are derived through different mechanisms and may appeal to different types of bettors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a specific outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The higher the demand for shares representing a particular player winning, the higher the price will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the traders participating in this market.
