Prediction market odds often present a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on internal models and aim to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by the wisdom of the crowd, where traders directly express their beliefs about the probability of each outcome. Consequently, you may find discrepancies between the implied probabilities on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks. These differences can arise from varying information sources, biases, or simply differing interpretations of the available data.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The closer the event gets, the more the price will reflect the collective intelligence of those trading. Higher volume generally indicates greater confidence in the market's accuracy, as more capital is at stake. The current price reflects what traders are willing to pay for exposure to the outcome of the Lucca Pinto vs Kaua Gava match.
