Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set lines based on statistical models and public betting patterns, this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who may incorporate unique information or have different risk assessments. Discrepancies can arise due to varying levels of information access, differing opinions on player form, or simply the dynamics of supply and demand within the prediction market. It's common to see prediction markets move ahead of sportsbook odds as new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the event's likelihood, based on the information available to traders.
