Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set their lines based on internal models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a player, the prediction market odds will likely move in the opposite direction. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe Nicolas Robert will win, the higher the price of shares representing his victory will climb, and vice versa for Nazim Makhlouf. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of those trading it.
