Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, reflecting their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders, aims to represent the true probability of an outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market’s odds are continuously updated based on real-money trading, potentially revealing discrepancies or insights not immediately apparent in sportsbook pricing.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of shares directly reflects the market’s collective forecast, and traders can adjust their positions based on new information or changing sentiment. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to evolving expectations.
