Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish initial lines based on their own analysis, aiming to balance action on both sides. This market, however, allows anyone to trade, and the price adjusts based on collective belief. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced the event, the prediction market odds will likely diverge. It's common to see prediction markets outperform traditional odds, especially when there's strong public interest or access to unique information.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price fluctuates, reflecting the evolving consensus. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated and responsive to changes in sentiment surrounding the Alves vs Braga match.
