Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade on their predictions. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can take the opposite position, driving the prediction market odds closer to what they perceive as the true probability. This dynamic can lead to interesting discrepancies and opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. The current price reflects the aggregated sentiment of all traders on Polymarket regarding the likely winner of the Alves vs Tosetto match.
