Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of each market. It’s common to see prediction markets move more quickly to incorporate new information, as they are continuously updated by traders reacting to news and analysis.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a particular player, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived chance of victory. Conversely, selling shares drives the price down. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the latest information and collective intelligence of the traders.
