Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individuals making their own predictions. It’s common to see differences emerge, especially as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts. Analyzing these differences can be insightful, but remember that both represent probabilities based on different methodologies and information sources.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price adjusts dynamically based on supply and demand, meaning that as more people buy shares in one outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. This creates a real-time assessment of the event's potential results.
