Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market allows anyone to participate and express their beliefs. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the players' strengths and weaknesses. It’s common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbook lines, especially as new information becomes available before the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are bought for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. The market dynamically adjusts to incorporate new information and changing sentiment, providing a real-time assessment of the match’s potential results.
