Generally, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely express their beliefs about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of each venue. If there's a significant difference between the implied probability on Polymarket and sportsbook lines, it could indicate an opportunity for value betting, but it's crucial to consider the reasoning behind the divergence.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and reflects the aggregate sentiment of those trading on the platform.
