Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, which can differ from sportsbook odds set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting patterns or house biases into their lines, while this market relies on individuals directly expressing their beliefs about the outcome. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Analyzing these differences can provide valuable insights into market sentiment and potential mispricings.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the evolving consensus. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market remains responsive to changes in perceived likelihood.
