Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, being driven by the collective wisdom of traders, aims to reflect the true probability of each outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market dynamically adjusts as more information becomes available and more people trade, potentially revealing discrepancies or a more accurate assessment of the likely winner.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each player winning. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price fluctuates, providing a real-time assessment of expectations. The market’s price is solely determined by supply and demand within Polymarket.
