Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often incorporating information and analysis beyond what’s readily available to traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert opinions, this market allows anyone to trade on their belief about the match’s outcome. As a result, you may find that the probabilities implied by Polymarket’s odds differ from those offered by sportsbooks, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. It’s a good practice to compare both to inform your own assessment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of shares representing that outcome will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants.
