Generally, prediction market odds tend to be more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, as they reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to be closer to true probabilities. However, there can be discrepancies, especially early on or for less popular events. It's common to see initial differences, with this market potentially offering different implied probabilities than those found at sportsbooks, reflecting varying levels of information and analysis among participants.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and collective intelligence of the traders participating in this market.
