Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a 'wisdom of the crowd' that can differ from traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may be influenced by factors like house bias or marketing strategies. This market, like others on Polymarket, allows anyone to participate and express their beliefs, potentially leading to odds that more accurately forecast the outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges, as traders incorporate diverse perspectives.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a specific outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants and adjusts in real-time based on new information and trading activity.
