Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, and can sometimes differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market is driven by individual predictions and the willingness to buy or sell based on those beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Analyzing these differences can be a valuable exercise for informed decision-making, but remember that both represent probabilities of the same underlying event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous process where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by the collective actions of all traders participating in this market. This dynamic pricing mechanism ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date information and sentiment.
