Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a particular outcome, the odds on Polymarket may move in the opposite direction. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, risk assessments, or simply varying opinions about the players’ capabilities. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks in accuracy, especially when a large and informed trading volume develops.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of each share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price indicates the collective prediction of all traders participating in this market. This dynamic pricing ensures that the odds continuously adjust based on new information and changing sentiment.
