Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd approach, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their books and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the aggregate beliefs of informed traders. Early on, you might see discrepancies, but as the event approaches, the odds on Polymarket tend to converge with those of sportsbooks as more information becomes available and traders refine their predictions. However, this market can sometimes offer different insights than traditional betting venues, especially if new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets. This creates a dynamic and real-time assessment of the fight's potential results.
