Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities, especially when there's strong public sentiment or information asymmetry. If a significant number of informed traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing the event, they may take positions on Polymarket that drive the odds in a different direction than conventional betting sites. It’s a way to gauge collective intelligence.
