Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, and can differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market aggregates the opinions of many individual traders. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before a significant amount of volume accumulates. These differences can arise from varying levels of information, biases, or simply differing interpretations of the available data. Tracking both prediction market prices and sportsbook odds offers a broader perspective on the potential outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where shares are bought and sold, adjusting the price based on supply and demand. As more traders believe a particular outcome will occur, they buy shares representing that outcome, driving up its price and implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly reflects the market’s assessment of the likelihood of that outcome. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust expectations as the event approaches. The current volume indicates the level of interest and conviction surrounding the potential results.
