Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like marketing or house biases, while this market relies on the collective predictions of informed traders. If there's a significant difference, it could indicate that the market believes a sportsbook has mispriced the probability of a particular outcome. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities, and discrepancies can occur due to differing information or analytical approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the evolving consensus. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand for shares on Polymarket and is not influenced by external factors or a central authority.
