Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates a wider range of information and perspectives. If there’s a significant discrepancy between the two, it could indicate that prediction market traders believe the sportsbook is mispricing the probability of a particular outcome. It’s common to see some alignment, but divergences can occur, especially as new information becomes available and influences traders’ assessments.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price adjusts dynamically based on supply and demand, providing a real-time assessment of the likelihood of each player winning the Baku tennis match. This creates a fluid and responsive pricing system.
