Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a ‘vig’ or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess the probability of an outcome. This can lead to discrepancies, with this market potentially offering more favorable odds depending on how traders value the information. It’s common to see prediction markets reflect the ‘wisdom of the crowd’ more accurately than initial sportsbook lines, especially as new information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a given outcome, the higher its price rises, indicating increased confidence among traders. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market constantly adjusts to new information and evolving expectations regarding the Baku tennis match.
